The National Honor Society (NHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1921. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 to be invited to join and then complete an application. Thirty-two students were inducted into the National Honor Society in a special ceremony on May 5. On Wednesday, April 7, our robotics team uploaded all final videos and scoring statistics for three major robot challenges. These videos and our scoring have now been certified by FIRST and a third party has compared our submission with the submissions of all competing teams from around the world to determine our world ranking in this year’s competition. Unofficially, we are ranked 188th globally and we are very happy to report that we are ranked number one in the state of Florida! The fourth and fifth-grade classes have been working hard on this year’s Science Fair projects. Each student did individual experiments as they displayed their knowledge of the Scientific Method. The fourth-grade winning projects were selected with the help of the National Honor Society. The fifth-grade students presented their projects before two judges on Monday, April 26. The judges were very impressed by all of the hard work, scientific thought, and creative display boards, making their job of deciding the top three very difficult. Congratulations to Gregg Coningsby ’81, our 2021 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. Gregg is the Engineering Manager of Apex Machine Company, responsible for all design aspects of custom printing machines that print on anything other than paper. He is also part owner of Apex and two other companies along with his three brothers. Gregg joined the Apex engineering team shortly after graduating from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
