High School Curriculum

The Portrait of a Graduate guides our decisions and desired outcomes for our high school students at Westminster Academy.

Step into the high school at Westminster Academy, and you will discover it’s a place where students are part of a special community. A community that fosters their development as individuals, community members, scholars, and life-long learners that seek to apply their gifts and talents for God’s glory.

Our students learn from outstanding Christian educators, fifty percent with advanced degrees, who invest in faithfully nurturing our students’ academic, social, and spiritual growth.

We challenge students to prepare well for college through rigorous academics and numerous opportunities to earn college credit before graduating high school through Advanced Placement and Dual-Enrollment classes. Over half of our high school students graduate with twelve or more college credits on their transcripts. Electives are designed to explore interests such as business law, broadcasting, computer science, robotics, creative writing, graphic design, and psychology. 

Our guidance office works with each of our students on a personal basis starting in ninth grade to offer guidance on course selection, individual counseling, advising, assistance with the college admissions process, and college scholarship information. 


Students will explore God’s word as one connected story as they examine various biblical texts to develop a fuller understanding of God’s voice and His redemptive message through scripture. In addition to analyzing scripture, students are encouraged to reflect upon God’s message as it applies to their lives.

Language Arts

Through a strong foundation in analyzing, interpreting, and responding to literature, students learn to read critically, evaluate ideas in the light of scripture, and compare themes across a range of complex texts using annotation, discussion, and composition assignments. The development of academic writing includes narrative, expository, and persuasive forms and the application of English grammar and mechanics.


Mathematics in middle school provides students with diverse opportunities to develop problem-solving skills through deductive reasoning and exploration. Students gain a deeper understanding of math concepts by narrowing their focus to fewer topics at each grade level. Content and skills are mastered through inductive reasoning opportunities, engaging activities that provide more in-depth understanding, concise, stepped-out examples, productive, thought-provoking exercises, and a continual building on what has previously been taught.

Social Studies

The major themes of time, continuity, and change; power, authority, and government; world and cultural perspectives; social structures; geographic relationships; and economics are developed in middle school and designed to engage student understanding of the past and present and prepare them for the future in light of God’s sovereignty.


The understandings and skills of middle school science follow a sequential study of earth, life, and physical science that is designed to deepen the student’s knowledge of the fundamental laws of each branch and the scientific method. Students explore the uniqueness of God’s creation and their responsibility to all aspects of their world, all while developing critical thinking skills.

World Languages

The world language program goals in middle school offer students an integrated view of the world languages, their history, and culture from a Biblical perspective. Basic and increasingly complex expressions, vocabulary, elements of grammar, sentence structure, speaking, listening, reading, and writing build competency in the world languages.


Design thinking, creative problem-solving skills, coding, robotic challenges, project-based learning, broadcast production, and STEAM courses allow students choices and avenues to explore and acquire high-order thinking and cognitive skills, flexibility, and persistence.

Fine Arts

Students explore the arts through selected courses in visual art, chorus, band, orchestra, and drama. These experiences are designed to give students opportunities for creative expression and growth in the respective disciplines.

Physical Education

Students are introduced to skills and practices that are necessary to enjoy and participate in physical activities, general fitness, and cognitive awareness of how to develop muscular and cardiorespiratory fitness.
