Even though NCAA competition had to be canceled due to COVID-19, Jessica Nava ’18 was ready to compete. She was one of 15 swimmers at the University of Virginia (UVA) who qualified. The Cavaliers tied Stanford with the largest swimming roster to qualify for the national meet. In addition, as a college sophomore, Jessica made the Division 1 All-American Team for the 100 and 200 fly. Her current best for the 100 Fly is 51.99—the third all-time best at UVA, and her current best at the 200 Fly is 1:56.18—the ninth-best all-time at UVA. Congratulations Jessica!...

What a year WA Alumnus, Paul Atkinson ’17, has had as a Yale Bulldog! His contributions to their basketball team have been significant. First, in late February, Paul reached 1,000 career points. He became the 30th player in Yale’s school history to score 1,000. This season, Paul averaged 17.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. A few short weeks later, the Junior Forward was named Ivy League Co-Player of the Year and became a unanimous All-Ivy League First Team selection. Congratulations to Laura Brash ’87 Bishop, our 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. Laura Brash ’87 Bishop is a graduate of Oral Roberts University (ORU), where she now serves as the Vice President of Advancement and a member of the President’s Cabinet. As Vice President, she oversees the Development and Alumni Relations, Media Production, Communication, Public Relations and Branding, Empowered21, and Golden Eagle Broadcasting teams. Under her direction, ORU successfully completed a historic $50 million 50th Anniversary Comprehensive Campaign. Altogether, she has helped raise more than $140 million for the university.
