Congratulations to Angie Marks ’93 Matsoff, our 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient.Angie Marks ’93 Matsoff is a tremendous example of having the Lion Spirit. Shortly after graduation from Westminster Academy, and just weeks before heading to college, Angie was diagnosed with Stargardt’s disease. This juvenile macular degeneration is an incurable eye disease that typically results in a loss of central vision over time. Within a year, Angie's vision deteriorated and declared legally blind. On Tuesday, May 14, the Alumni Association held their annual LaSpadas luncheon for seniors and alumni. The Alumni Association welcomed the class of 2019 into the fold by challenging and encouraging these newest members. Sarah Abadines ‘04 Maba, Aaron Bibbee ‘12, and Vince Trombino ‘17, each shared reflections. Two recent WA alumni are now showing the nation just how good their God-given abilities are.Just last week, the University of Virginia announced on Tuesday, March 12, Jessica Nava ’18 advanced to the NCAAs in the 100 and 200 fly. The freshman finished ninth in both events at the ACC Championships. She recorded the third-fastest time in their school history this season in the 100 fly.Then, Paul Atkinson ’17 celebrated with the Yale basketball team who won the Ivy League Championship on Sunday, March 17.
