In November, fifteen students in grades 6-8 competed in our annual spelling bee. After studying a list of over 400 words, eighth-grade student, Olivia Faber, won the bee with the championship word “undine”. Olivia will go on to represent WA virtually at the regional qualifiers on February 23. Members from the Westminster Academy National Honor Society visited the Lauderdale Lakes Alzheimer’s Center to sing and make crafts with those served by the Center. It is the first time since 2019 that they have been able to visit due to COVID-19. Students were excited to return as this has been a regular part of their service to the community. In October, the Westminster Academy National Junior Honor Society inducted its newest members. The Upper School Student Council led the efforts to collect food and donations for the people who were impacted by Hurricane Ian. WA students and families answered the call and collected over 3,500 items. Along with donations, several students also joined with Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church to serve those in Ft. Myers devasted by Hurricane Ian. Students helped distribute the donations, served meals, and cleaned homes damaged by the storm. Traditions live on at WA. This year’s Homecoming Court was presented at today’s assembly. Students nominated by their peers make up the members of the court. Seniors shared their testimony and fun facts, after which students voted for Homecoming King and Queen. Holding true to tradition, the school will present the court again during halftime at tomorrow night’s homecoming game, and a king and queen will be crowned.
