The upper school hosted a combined chapel for middle and high school students yesterday. Traveling from Wenham, Massachusetts, guest speaker and a professor of kinesiology, Dr. Sean Clark came to WA from Gordon College. Dr. Clark joined the kinesiology faculty at Gordon College in 2000 and serves as the program chair, as well as the Director of Health Professions. The coursework he teaches focuses on the physiology of the nervous system, human anatomy, and physiology. The Rotary Club of North Lauderdale honored WA senior, Audrey Aguiar, as the Rotary Student of the Month this February. This prestigious recognition acknowledges two outstanding students from WA each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Students must show exceptional qualities in the areas of academics, leadership, and most of all, community service for this recognition. Audrey is an outstanding example of how a student can serve her community. She currently leads her class with 1368 hours of community service to date. The Upper School Media Center Book Club will meet again on Tuesday, March 24, at 7:00 p.m. The book club is open to current WA parents, faculty, staff, and high school students, as well as alumni families and former WA faculty and staff. Save the date for Friday, April 24, for our 10th Annual Fishing Tournament brought to you by The Lions Parent Association! The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 7:00 a.m. from the Hillsboro Inlet. Then, weigh-ins will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Nauti Dawg Marina Cafe. Throughout the school year, the National Honor Society (NHS) partners with Lauderdale Lakes Alzheimer’s Care Center. Students visit the center and sing hymns, make crafts, and fellowship with the residents. The students further their support with an annual Walk to Benefit the Alzheimer’s Center, which is the biggest fundraiser for NHS every year. Because of the half-day on Thursday, January 23, the National Honor Society spent the afternoon participating in the fundraiser.
