The Varsity Athletic Awards took place on Thursday, May 23, in the Kennedy Fellowship Hall. The night included a video slideshow featuring action photos of our student-athletes, a team recognition video, and finally, an awards presentation. The accomplishments of our teams and student-athletes were celebrated, and it was a memorable night.The highest award of the evening is the C.L.A.S.S. Award for a male and female athlete who has displayed Christ-likeness, dynamic leadership, academic excellence, servant attitude, and sportsmanship in their athletic careers. This commitment to the goals of Westminster Academy and WA Athletics is seen in athletes throughout their career, not just a single year. Therefore, the award goes to junior or senior athletes. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Ernie Gonzalez has been selected as Westminster Academy’s Head Baseball Coach.Coach Gonzalez comes to us after “wearing many hats” during a career that has spanned over a decade at various South Florida schools, including Gulliver Prep, Doral Academy, and Mater Lakes Academy. In addition to coaching at these schools, he has also been involved with travel baseball in South Florida.Coach Gonzalez will also teach physical education in the fall. He is a certified teacher with degrees in Physical Education and Educational Leadership and we are excited to welcome him to our faculty team. He is a native of Miami...

The Lady Lions’ Softball team shared a memorable 2019 season full of persistence, dedication, and heart. The competitive schedule challenged the young, talented squad. The Lions came up with some noteworthy wins against district rivals, Chaminade-Madonna and Calvary, as well as Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop McCarthy, and West Boca High School. The team finished with a 15 win season and were District-Runner Ups.The Lady Lions had a lot of depth in their lineup. The Varsity Baseball team enjoyed another solid season in their spring campaign. Despite returning only one starter from the regional-qualifying 2018 team, the team celebrated success. The young Lions finished runner-up in the district. They also made it to the Regional Semi-Final game for the second year in a row. However, they lost with a 1-0 heart-breaker to nationally ranked Florida Christian.The Lions ranked in the top 10 in Broward County by season’s end. This week is your chance to see our 2019 football teams in action! After a culmination of spring football activities, WA will host two games on Thursday, May 16. First, the middle school football team will host Calvary Christian at 4:00 p.m. Then, the varsity football team will host Immaculata-LaSalle (Miami) at 6:00 p.m. Concessions will be available for purchase from about 4:30 p.m. through halftime of the varsity game.
