15 May A Word From Dr. Satterly—May 15, 2025
Dear WA Community,
Some of my colleagues call this month “Maygeddon” or Maycember” because of the number of events. While we always seem to finish the year at breakneck speed, this one has been even more with The Next Chapter campaign and the impending acquisition of the La Quinta hotel land lease. As we finish this year, we also have an eye on our future. While that is typically our posture, it is more so this year.
We would be mistaken, however, to allow the tyranny of the urgent to result in ignoring both the importance of our approaching Commencement Ceremony and the image it depicts. Westminster Academy has a long tradition of a special end to the year—Baccalaureate and Commencement. Both are held in the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church Sanctuary, demonstrating the impact of a church and school partnership as well as the dignity afforded from such a ceremony, which is reflective of our institution.
At Westminster Academy, we think of our students as family, and Family Never Graduates. We also understand that after more than five decades of Christian schooling, not all senior classes are created equally. The Class of 2025 is a particularly strong group—as a group, they are talented and accomplished. In particular, the two highest-achieving students are our Valedictorian, Samantha Omslaer, and Salutatorian, Tommy Breza. This class represents our school well, and they will be missed.
If you have not attended a Westminster Academy Baccalaureate or Commencement, I urge you to do so, especially for those younger families. Come and see the outcome of 16,000 hours and be encouraged about the opportunities ahead.
On Thursday, May 22, we look forward to hearing a message at Baccalaureate from WA Class of 2000 Alumnus, Dr. Robey Barnes, Lead Pastor from City Rev Church, as our seniors and families gather for a final service. The following evening, we will hear from Dr. Brad Voyles, President of Covenant College, as he encourages our students to live out our Portrait of a Graduate. Both begin at 7:00 p.m. and are also live-streamed at coralridge.tv
As the 2024–25 school year comes to a close, it seems appropriate to pause and give thanks to those who have impacted our seniors on their Westminster Academy journey. Praise God for His provision and blessing!
To God be the Glory, Great things He has done.
Blessings,
Dr. Joel Satterly
