Middle school students traveled to Orlando last Friday, February 21, to perform. Just outside Universal Studios at the Lagoon, our talented seventh and eighth-grade students greeted guests with their music. They performed the “America, the Beautiful” by  Samuel Ward and “Stone Mountain Stomp” by Carl Strommen. The students also enjoyed a day at Universal. Westminster Academy proudly presents The Sound of Music, sponsored by Sage Dental and Dr. Steven Short Orthodontics. This play is one of the most nostalgic musicals, accredited to the memorable film version with Julie Andrews. While this musical is slightly different from the film most remember, the story is still the heartwarming, real-life story of the Von Trapp Family singers. In their inaugural year, our WA Junior Thespian stars are shining! This past weekend, five students from sixth and seventh grade traveled to Orlando for the Junior Thespian Conference and Competition. They qualified for this event by receiving “Excellent” ratings for their performances at the local District competition in December. This invaluable experience allowed students to attend workshops taught by Broadway actors and dancers. On Saturday, up against hundreds of middle school students from around the state, the students competed in their events. This past week, the Florida Music Educators Association Convention gathered some of the most talented students in the state to perform in Tampa. Three of our students traveled to represent Westminster Academy as part of the All-State Choir. They met for three days of rehearsals before putting on a full program at the Tampa Convention Center. The All-State Choruses are highly-selected groups of choral students from Florida’s middle and high schools. For selection, students must pass three separate tests, including a music theory exam, sight-singing audition, and a vocal quality audition.
