The high school choir performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City on April 3 as part of the Masterworks Festival Chorus with the New York City Chamber Orchestra. Select schools from around the country make up the choir of 200 voices as they performed “Jubilate Deo” by Dan Forrest and conducted by Dr. Pearl Shangkuan. Dan Forrest was also commissioned to write the arrangement of Great is Thy Faithfulness for Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church’s 60th anniversary last year. ​Dear WA Community, When our girls were little, they loved the movie The Sound of Music. As a result, I’ve watched it more times than I can remember or count. However, those days are long gone, and while I can no longer recall the dialogue, these words of Julie Andrews are forever etched in my memory, “Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start….” The Westminster Academy lexicon includes something with a similar theme, “Begin with the end in mind.” I never had the chance to ask Dr. Wackes if he was inspired by the singing Van Trapp family...

The Westminster Academy we all enjoy today hasn’t always looked like this one. Last week was full of school spirit in honor of Winter Court with dress-up days, hallway decorations, the Winter Court presentation in the Upper School chapel, and Friday’s pep rally. All festivities led up to the WA Lions basketball game on Saturday, February 4, against Saint John Paul II Eagles. The Lions, who rank #3 in their division, defeated the Eagles 78–56.
