The Lady Lions Basketball Team won the State Championship after defeating Cardinal Mooney 44–41 in Lakeland! The road to the championship was paved with several tournaments, including the Insider Exposure Tournament in Jacksonville, the Shark Showdown in Naples, the Tampa Bay Invitational in Tampa, and the She Got Game Tournament in Atlanta. They finished the season with a 27–5 overall record. The ladies won Districts and then defeated eight-time State Champion and two-time National Champion Miami Country Day for the regional title! Last week was full of school spirit in honor of Winter Court with dress-up days for even our youngest lions, the Winter Court presentation in the upper school chapel, and Friday’s pep rally. All festivities led up to the WA Lions basketball game on Saturday, February 5, against The Benjamin School Buccaneers. The Lions entered the game with a 17–6 record and defeated the Buccaneers 74–54. The game was not the only crowning achievement celebrated. It is that time of year when our WA Alumni take on the Faculty for our annual co-ed basketball game. Winners get bragging rights and the Lion Knocker Trophy for a year. We will be playing immediately following our Varsity Boys Winter Court game on Friday, February 4, 2022. All are invited to come out as a player or fans. We are proud to announce that Julian Camejo signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer at Montreat College! Congratulations are also in order to the Ladies’ Water Polo team as they captured the District Championship Title and move forward to Regionals.
