Tomorrow the Lions Varsity Football Team will compete in the Regional Semifinal FHSAA State Playoff against Moore Haven High School. For the first time in school history, Westminster Academy will host the game on our H.W. Huizenga Family Football Field at the west campus Athletic Complex. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. Our Honorary Captain for the night will be none other than WA Alumnus, World Series Champion, Michael A. Taylor ’09. Dear WA Lions Fans, The Lions Varsity Football Team completed the regular season with an impressive 34–20 win last Friday night against the Ransom Everglades Raiders. The win improved the Lions’ record to 9–1 as they head into the FHSAA State Playoffs for the first time since 2001. MaxPreps ranks Westminster Academy football as the #2 seed in Class 2A, Region 4—giving the Lions a first-round bye week in the playoffs. The Florida Independent Football Conference selected WA senior, Donovan Lassiter, as Player of the Year. As Varsity Football Team Captain, Donovan led the way for the WA Lions during the regular season. He has 39 carries for 442 yards and 11 touchdowns and 39 receptions for 536 yards and six touchdowns. He also had a punt return, a kickoff return, and an interception return for a touchdown.
