WA Athletics 2026 Spring Season Wrap-Up

DJ Gaines: Florida Dairy Farmer’s 2A Men’s Basketball Player of the Year
Westminster Academy celebrates a historic moment in athletics as junior guard D.J. Gaines has been named the Florida Dairy Farmers 2026 Class 2A Player of the Year. He also earned First Team All-County honors from both the Sun Sentinel and Miami Herald.

Gaines led his team with an outstanding season, averaging 30.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. A remarkable achievement marked by excellence, humility, and perseverance—congratulations to D.J. Gaines on this incredible honor. To God be the glory!

Jack Scott: Brian Piccolo Class of 2026 Scholar Athlete
Congratulations to senior Jack Scott, recipient of the Brian Piccolo Award for the Class of 2026 Scholar Athlete of the Year. This prestigious honor recognizes excellence in both the classroom and athletics, and we celebrate Jack for the outstanding leadership, character, and dedication he has demonstrated throughout his time at Westminster Academy.

Track and Field: State Competitors
The WA Track and Field team delivered an outstanding performance at the 1A FHSAA State Championships, May 6 in Jacksonville, FL, with the men’s team finishing 5th overall and multiple athletes earning medals, personal records, and spots in the Westminster Academy record books. We celebrate our student-athletes for representing Westminster Academy with excellence on the state stage!

Highlights from the state meet include:

  • Joshua WilliamsState Champion in Long Jump and 3rd Place in High Jump
  • DJ Pierce — State Runner-Up in Pole Vault with a PR clearance of 4.35m (14’3.25”)
  • Lucas Latimore — State medalist in the 800m with a PR time of 1:57.72, moving to 2nd All-Time in WA history
  • Adrian Gordon, Samuel Carre, Lucas Latimore, and Joshua Williams — State medalists in the 4×400 relay with a season-best 3:25.89 finish
  • Hannah Carre — Seventh-grade state medalist in High Jump with a PR of 1.52m (approximately 5 feet)
  • Noelle Richardson — State medalist in the 1600m with a PR of 5:10.85, moving to 2nd All-Time in WA history
Varsity Softball: District Champions
The Lions Softball team captured its sixth consecutive District title this season with a 12-0 victory over the Boca Christian Blazers.

Men’s Water Polo: Regional Champions
The Men’s Water Polo team was District and Regional Champions and reached the State Final Four.

Ladies’ Water Polo: Regional Runner-Up
The Ladies’ Water Polo team was District Champions and Regional Runner-Ups.
Ladies’ Tennis: 
Lexie BursaFirst Singles District Champion
Lexie Bursa and Alexandra SiegleFirst Doubles District Champions
Both ladies advanced to the State Championships and competed hard!
