The Festival of the Fine Arts will be a wonderful evening where you can experience a taste of the Fine Arts offered at Westminster Academy! This benefit concert will include our 5th Grade Choir, 4th–8th Grade Drama, High School Drama, Band, Orchestra, Art, Choir, and Broadcasting performances! It will be a delightful time for all ages! The fourth and fifth-grade classes have been working hard on this year’s Science Fair projects. Each student did individual experiments as they displayed their knowledge of the Scientific Method. The fourth-grade winning projects were selected with the help of the National Honor Society. The fifth-grade students presented their projects before two judges on Monday, April 26. The judges were very impressed by all of the hard work, scientific thought, and creative display boards, making their job of deciding the top three very difficult. Lower School Student Council collected supplies to create 25 boxes containing 295 "joy kits" and 6 boxes of additional supplies for families at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. Each grade was assigned items to bring in such as toiletries, activity books, socks, stickers, board books, crayons, card games, throw blankets, and stuffed animals. It is with great excitement that the Lower School announces the addition of a math enrichment program for grades 3–5 titled “M3 Adventure.” This program utilizes the M3 Mentoring Mathematical Minds curriculum which is a National Association for Gifted Children's Curriculum Studies Award Winner. It was designed for gifted and high ability students and was developed at the University of Connecticut NEAG School of Education's Renzulli Center for Creativity. On Friday, January 22, 2021, we held our Scripps/Miami Herald 4th and 5th-grade Spelling Bee. The students were well-prepared and excited to show their spelling expertise. After 18 rounds and 167 words of intense competition, Klorey White won the spelling bee. Klorey will go on to represent Westminster Academy in the Miami Herald/Scripps National Spelling Bee for Broward County in March.
