Florida State Junior Thespian Competition

Florida State Junior Thespian Competition

Congratulations to our WA Junior Thespian Troupe, who recently participated in the Orlando Florida State Junior Thespian competition. Our students shined for God’s glory throughout the competition!

Two of our sixth graders in the technical categories submitted costume designs and presented their ideas to judges from prestigious theater companies. Another presented his stage set design to a panel of judges, including a Disney Cruise Line stage productions director.

For the performance events, our students competed in improvisation, large and small group musicals, and solo events, judged by a panel of Broadway singers and New York producers. The students ended the competition with 7 “Excellent” and 2 “Superior” ratings!

Students attended a Masterclass by Kara Lindsey, star of Broadway’s Newsies and Wicked, and a dance class taught by Brian Curl from the national tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. They loved attending an “invisible weaponry” stage combat class and seeing a one-act production of Peter and the Starcatcher.

A trip highlight was attending an evening production of The Last Adam. The troupe was treated to a backstage tour of the set before the show and a “talk-back” where our students got to meet and ask questions of the cast, who will soon be taking the show on tour and to New York. One of the cast members reminded our students that while searching for the spotlight and recognition, they must always remember to shine for Jesus because HE is the one that matters!
