Students Share The Love Of Christ By Serving Others

1 Peter 4:10 says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

As stated in the verse above, part of our activity as a Christian school is to serve others. We have coordinated student-led service projects to demonstrate our faith in action. Our Upper School service days are called “Rooted & Grounded,” following the school theme “Rooted” from Jeremiah 17:8. We have partnered with local nonprofit organizations to provide opportunities for our students to positively impact our community and interact with their peers in meaningful ways. We desire to develop our students to be Christlike servant leaders.

The 9th grade (last Thursday) and 10th grade (today, 11/11) volunteered with Feeding South Florida at their Boynton Beach and Pembroke Park locations to participate in their Emergency Food Assistance Program and Retail Store Donation Program by packing and handing out food bags to families in need through their car line distribution and inspecting and sorting food in preparation for food distribution to low-income families in emergency situations. Our 9th and 10th students have the opportunity to rescue over 110,000 lbs of food to provide over 90,000 meals to families. The FSF staff were unbelievably grateful to have our students help with their programs. In addition, they were very impressed by our students’ desire to positively impact their community, specifically those in need.

The 11th and 12th grades (this Friday, 11/12) are volunteering with HomesUnited. HomesUnited is a ministry that started in 2019 to help house the homeless, those with mental health struggles, women, children, and anyone who is in need of housing. HomesUnited has 13 homes and has served over 100 people this year. The ministry is dependent on people who are willing to serve by giving their time and resources to the ministry. We are so blessed to have Coral Ridge and Westminster Academy as partners. Our students are painting and gardening at four different homes at the same time. HomesUnited Director, Pastor Duane Mellor, says, “This is such a blessing for the ministry. We cannot thank WA enough for its support. HomesUnited is so thankful for a school that teaches students how to be ‘Rooted and Grounded’ in a biblical worldview that is not only academic but driven by service. The impact the students will have will extend through eternity. And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me,’ Matthew 25:40.”
