After School Children’s Choir Opportunities

logoWe are excited to announce two new musical opportunities for children starting this Thursday, August 24. These after-school choir programs will teach your child essential singing and music literacy skills, while experiencing the joy of making music. Singing is a powerful tool for bringing people together, and by fostering a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie, your child will gain confidence in their musical abilities as they build long-lasting friendships.

We have two grade-level choirs:

The Chapel Choir is for those in kindergarten through third grade. This program will lay the foundation of music reading and vocal production while introducing children to a variety of musical styles. Chapel Choir will sing in worship once every eight weeks and will participate in the Christmas at Coral Ridge Concert on Friday, December 15.

Chapel Choir:
Time: 3:30 p.m to 4:15 p.m.
Location: CRPC Choir Room
Director: Lidia Blatz

The Kings and Angels is for fourth through seventh grade. These young singers will be challenged as they learn to sing in two and three-part harmony. Further development of their ear training and sight-reading skills will strengthen their musicianship, allowing them to perform more advanced music. Kings and Angels will sing in worship once every six weeks and will participate in the Christmas at Coral Ridge Concert on Friday, December 15.

Kings & Angels:
Time: 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Location: First Floor Meeting Room (adjacent to choir room)
Director: Matt McMurrin

WA’s Music Program Receives National Recognition with the SupportMusic Merit Award for 2016

April 20, 2017 Posted in: Arts Tags: , ,

SupportMusicWestminster Academy has been honored with the SupportMusic Merit Award from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. WA is one of ninety-two schools from across the country and one of only three schools in Florida to receive the prestigious award in 2016.

The SupportMusic Merit Award is awarded to individual schools that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

Schools that have been recognized by the NAMM Foundation are held up as models for other educators looking to boost their own music education programs.

To qualify for the SupportMusic Merit Award, Westminster Academy provided answers to detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. Responses were verified and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit supported in part by the National Association of Music Merchants and its approximately 10,300 members around the world. The foundation advances active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving, and public service programs. Evening Of The Arts At Westminster Academy

Last night, Wednesday, April 20, was a fine arts extravaganza as both the middle and high school art students, orchestras, and choirs glorified God with their gifts and talents.

Our Juried Art Show started at 5:30 p.m. in the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church Narthex. The festival showcased artwork from all Middle and High School art classes. We could not be prouder of all the hard work these students put into their work.

The evening continued with our Orchestra and Choir concerts in the Coral Ridge Sanctuary. Our students performed exceptionally, excelling in their pieces. Mr. Schwartz changed things up a bit for his orchestra concert by combing groups who do not usually perform together and the results were great! Our younger students saw what extra practice will help them accomplish and our older students were able to lean into our younger students with advice on the instruments.

Congratulations to all our students who earned special recognition and awards last night. We are proud of every student in our Fine Arts Department!
