WA talent will be on display next week when students of WA performing arts programs will fill the stage. Back in December, students represented the WA Concert Orchestra at the district level. Senior, Taylor Everett, and juniors, Hannah Billings, Alyssa Allen, and Audrey Aguiar joined the Solo and Ensemble Festival. This county-wide event allows students to perform individually or as an ensemble for adjudication. As a result, the quartet achieved the highest score among participants—a superior rating.With their superior rating, the Westminster Academy String Quartet then performed at the state level this past weekend. Middle school students traveled to Orlando last Friday, February 15, to perform. Just outside Universal Studios at the Lagoon, our talented seventh and eighth-grade students greeted guests with their music. They performed the "Rite of Stonehenge" by Elliot Del Borgo and "Conquistador" by Deborah Monday.The middle school orchestra underwent an audio audition for the invitation. Because Universal vets their performers through an audition taped process, they accept only those who meet their expectations. We are grateful for the opportunity. On Thursday, January 17, the middle school orchestra traveled to Miami Beach to attend an educational concert. The New World Symphony performed with the purpose of introducing school-age students to a full orchestra. While students enjoyed strings, winds, brass, and percussion, they also heard firsthand how music communicates a story.This field trip was personal for Mr. David Schwartz, WA Orchestra Director, who was a part of the New World Symphony when it first began in 1988.
