Dear WA Community,
Seeing, they say, is believing. While that is not entirely true, especially when we consider the classic definition of faith found in Hebrews 11, the well-known phrase is nonetheless useful. People often ask about our school. What is Westminster Academy about? How is it distinct? The answer is clear every week across our campus.
At the heart of Westminster Academy are three things: Academic Excellence, Spiritual Formation, and Community. These are not simply words on a page. They are woven into the everyday experiences of our students, families, faculty, and staff. They are clearly seen. Any given week overflows with examples. Here are a few …
Academic Excellence was evident this week as WA senior Eliana Chen was named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. This achievement is one of the most prestigious academic honors available to high school students. Such recognition reflects the discipline, diligence, and resilience our students bring to their work each day. At Westminster Academy, we start with the end in mind, preparing students to pursue excellence in all things and to excel according to the gifts God has given.
Spiritual Formation came to life as I joined our Lower School students in chapel dressed as an eye doctor, complete with oversized glasses, to connect a little Bugs Bunny wisdom with our school theme, “Fix Your Eyes,” from Hebrews 12:2. We had some fun with seeing clearly while pointing our students to the One who should always be our focus: Jesus. I look forward to sharing a similar message with our Upper School students soon in an upcoming chapel.
Community is at the heart of Westminster Academy. It is the essence of our identity that flows from our theological convictions. At our Lions Parent Association Kickoff, I shared that lions are unique among the large cats in that they live and work together in a pride. That kind of community brings strength—each one contributing, caring for one another, and working together toward something greater. That is what I see in our WA family, and the LPA is one exemplary expression of that spirit.
Rarely does a week go by without seeing all three. This is Westminster Academy. We are grateful for the opportunity to pursue excellence, keep our eyes on Jesus, and live out our mission together as one WA family.
