Class of 2021 Commencement And Baccalaureate Speakers

We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2021 Baccalaureate on Thursday, May 20, and Commencement on Friday, May 21—both at 7:00 p.m. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Debra A. Schwinn, President of Palm Beach Atlantic University will give our Commencement address on May 21. Prior to her current role, Dr. Schwinn was Associate Vice President for Medical Affairs, Dean of the Carver College of Medicine, and Professor of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology, and Biochemistry at the University of Iowa. Before those appointments, Dr. Schwinn served in senior leadership roles at the University of Washington and Duke University.

Dr. Schwinn holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the College of Wooster in her native Ohio. Dr. Schwinn also earned a medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine where she has also been honored as a distinguished alumnus. A physician, scientist, and member of the National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Schwinn’s laboratory was funded for 27 years by the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Schwinn is married to Dr. Robert Gerstmyer, a religious scholar. They have two adult children and one grandchild. An innovator at heart, Dr. Schwinn is excited to be leading an organization that graduates Christian servant-leaders who positively change our world. This mission resonates with Westminster Academy as well and we are honored to welcome her to address the Class of 2021.

Dr. Tim Sansbury is our Baccalaureate Speaker. He is Provost and Associate Professor of Philosophy and Theology at Knox Theological Seminary where he teaches primarily systematic theology, ethics, philosophy, and courses on Christianity and science. He is also currently serving as interim pastor for Truth Point Church (PCA) in West Palm Beach. Dr. Sansbury’s undergraduate degree is in Physics from Georgia Tech and was followed by an M.A. at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando and a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary. His work on the eternity of God has been published under the title Beyond Time: Defending God’s Transcendence. Dr. Sansbury is married to Tesa, and they have three daughters: Anna (freshman, UF), Emily (senior, WA), and Paige (sophomore, WA).

Please be in prayer for our senior class as they prepare to embark on a new journey.
