Traditions live on at WA. Today’s high school chapel celebrated Homecoming by presenting this year’s Homecoming Court. Students nominated by their peers make up the members of the court. Today’s chapel spent time allowing seniors to share their testimony with the student body. Then, after receiving voting ballots, the entire upper school student body voted for the Homecoming king and queen.Holding true to tradition, the school will present the court again during halftime at tomorrow’s Homecoming game, and a king and queen will be crowned. About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of semi-finalists, approximately 16,000 students, represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. They include the highest-scoring entrants in each state.The National Merit Scholarship Program recently recognized WA seniors, Sebastian Molina and Ava Gaus, as semi-finalists. Congratulations to both these students for this accomplishment as they enter the process to qualify as a finalist. Since sixth grade, the Lady Lion’s Basketball Team has played together as an official WA team. The point being they know how to play well together.The official season started with a 52-15 victory over Sheridan Hills. The next two games the ladies achieved two more victories. It was in their fourth season game when they lost the heartbreaker to Benjamin in a hard fought 73-77 defeat. However, our Lady Lions were resilient and they stomped the next team 63-29. The Upper School Media Center invited Author Melody Carlson to visit Westminster Academy on Tuesday, January 12 of this year. The Upper School was blessed with an interview format directed by Leo Reilly during the chapel service which also included a question and answer time. Melody Carlson has written over 250 books and has sold over 2.5 million books over the last 20 years. In addition to answering questions during chapel, Melody had lunch with two high school students, three English teachers, and other staff members.
