Two recent WA alumni are now showing the nation just how good their God-given abilities are. Just last week, the University of Virginia announced on Tuesday, March 12, Jessica Nava ’18 advanced to the NCAAs in the 100 and 200 fly. The freshman finished ninth in both events at the ACC Championships. She recorded the third-fastest time in their school history this season in the 100 fly. In their fourth consecutive State Final appearance, the Lions Men’s Basketball Team clinched their third consecutive State Championship Title by defeating Seffner Christian Academy Crusaders 77–73 in Lakeland, Florida! On Friday, March 1, A Night Under the Big Top gave way to big contributions to WA! We anticipate the generous giving from our annual dinner auction will be a net total of over $224,000, surpassing last year’s record by $76,258! During the event, we fully funded our new Collaboratory and raised over $168,000 for our Annual Fund. With much to celebrate, we also have many to thank. On March 6, sixth-grade student, Brady Oropesa, represented WA in the Miami Herald Spelling Bee. There were 67 public and private schools who sent students to compete in this county-wide event. In addition to improving students’ spelling skills and increasing vocabulary, spelling bee participation provides valuable experience in developing poise. As a result, Brady gained a necessary skill for success in public speaking and performing arts.
