Dear WA Community, In Matthew 25, Jesus tells a parable about three servants entrusted with talents. Because two of them invested their talents and increased their value, they were commended. In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, he reminds us that we “are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” We capture both of these ideas in our conversation about the 16,000-hour proposition—the amount of time a student spends in school. We join Coach Sam Freas, Director of WA Aquatics, and his family in grieving the loss of his father, Dr. Sam Freas. Dr. Freas was a legendary swim coach who left a distinct mark on swimming programs wherever he went. He served as head coach at Arkansas, Hawaii, and Louisiana State, SUNY-Potsdam and Allegheny College. He was currently serving as head swim coach of Oklahoma Baptist University. WA Robotics Team, Shark Attack FRC Team 744, returned this past weekend from the South Florida FIRST Regional Competition with accolades and awards. They placed fifth among 64 teams in the qualifying rounds. Most importantly, they came home with the Engineering Inspiration Award! This award automatically qualifies the team for the World Championship in Houston, Texas. This is now the third consecutive year, our high school robotics team will compete against top robotics teams from around the globe.
