Leadership Broward Foundation (LBF) has served the county as a catalyst for change for 37 years. Their programs help emerging and recognized leaders expand their skills and enhance their knowledge of local and state issues. Similarly, their nine-month program, Youth Leadership Broward (YLB), focuses on developing students. Each year, YLB selects 55 current sophomores from across Broward County to participate in this program during their junior year. The excitement was in the air as WA students arrived in Orlando for the 70th Annual State Latin Forum competition this past week. Our Latin students from seventh to eleventh grade were put to the test from Wednesday, April 3 to Saturday, April 6. WA joined over 1,200 Latin students from over 60 schools that qualified. Together, the crowd celebrated the Latin language and Roman culture. WA Robotics Team, Shark Attack FRC Team 744, returned this past weekend from the South Florida FIRST Regional Competition with accolades and awards. They placed fifth among 64 teams in the qualifying rounds. Most importantly, they came home with the Engineering Inspiration Award! This award automatically qualifies the team for the World Championship in Houston, Texas. This is now the third consecutive year, our high school robotics team will compete against top robotics teams from around the globe. Earlier this year, we put into writing our Portrait of a Graduate. It is our aim that these distinctive qualities will take root in our current students and continue to flourish after graduating from Westminster Academy. This week, we would like to share how sixth-grader, Sebastian Garcia-Alcala, is well on his way to fulfilling that portrait. Five years ago, Sebastian was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
