While coming home with the State Championship Title was enough to celebrate, the awards for WA Basketball keep coming. The Florida High School Athletic Association named WA senior Chase Johnston the 4A Men's Basketball Player of the Year. Chase's accomplishments this year on the court include breaking a few records. First, he scored 52 points in a single game at the Montverde Academy Invitational, breaking the previous record held by Ben Simmons who is now a professional basketball player. Two recent WA alumni are now showing the nation just how good their God-given abilities are. Just last week, the University of Virginia announced on Tuesday, March 12, Jessica Nava ’18 advanced to the NCAAs in the 100 and 200 fly. The freshman finished ninth in both events at the ACC Championships. She recorded the third-fastest time in their school history this season in the 100 fly. In their fourth consecutive State Final appearance, the Lions Men’s Basketball Team clinched their third consecutive State Championship Title by defeating Seffner Christian Academy Crusaders 77–73 in Lakeland, Florida!
