The Lions Swimming and Diving teams had an impressive showing at their District meet on Saturday, October 31. With several weather delays, both Ladies’ and Men’s teams were still able to capture the District Championship titles. There were also quite a few Individual Champions to celebrate in their respective events: Tori Barbar (500 free), Christian Clark (50 free and 100 free), Abigail Farrar (Diving), JoJo Richter (100 back), Blake Shaw (Diving), and Men's 200 free relay of Christian Clark, Max Flores, Mark Pekic, and Blake Shaw. While a few Homecoming traditions were put on hold this year due to COVID, school spirit was on full display through decorated hallways and dress-up days. The Homecoming football game was an eventful one, as a limited crowd joined us at the west campus Athletic Complex to cheer on the Lions as they took on the Saint Andrews School Scots. In the last 12 months, the Lions Athletic Club (Boosters) was newly formed and focused on supporting our Westminster Academy student-athletes to excel on and off the field with new equipment, gear, and facilities. Every year, the National Football Foundation hosts the Brian Piccolo Award Banquet. This awards dinner pays tribute to the late Brian Piccolo, a standout football player for St. Thomas Aquinas, Wake Forest, and the NFL with the Chicago Bears. In addition, it gathers 40 senior student-athletes from Broward County schools who excelled both academically and on the football field. Last week, senior Donovan Lassiter would have attended.
