Congratulations to sophomore, Rachel Castillo for placing fifth in the 2019 National Vocal Competition! The New York City Lyric Opera Company sponsors this talent search by holding live auditions in New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, and Miami. In addition, they accepted recorded auditions from all over the country for Division I & II. The competition always gathers talented students. Back in January, WA students gathered to begin their work on the spring musical, Once Upon a Mattress, the story of the Princess and the Pea. Over 250 hours of rehearsals and line memorization later, many enjoyed the fruits of much labor. The character development, singing, and choreography certainly put our talented WA students on display. Back in December, students represented the WA Concert Orchestra at the district level. Senior, Taylor Everett, and juniors, Hannah Billings, Alyssa Allen, and Audrey Aguiar joined the Solo and Ensemble Festival. This county-wide event allows students to perform individually or as an ensemble for adjudication. As a result, the quartet achieved the highest score among participants—a superior rating. With their superior rating, the Westminster Academy String Quartet then performed at the state level this past weekend.
