12 May Commencement & Baccalaureate Speakers
In the February eNews, we announced that this year’s commencement speaker will be Dr. R. Albert Mohler Jr. We are excited that he and his wife, WA alumna, Class of 1979, Mary (Kahler) Mohler, will be joining us. Dr. Mohler serves as president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary—the flagship school of the Southern Baptist Convention and one of the largest seminaries in the world. He has been recognized by such influential publications as Time and Christianity Today as a leader among American evangelicals.
Dr. Mohler is a theologian and an ordained minister, having served as pastor and staff minister of several Southern Baptist churches. A Florida native, Dr. Mohler was a Faculty Scholar at Florida Atlantic University before receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He holds a master of divinity degree and a doctor of philosophy (in systematic and historical theology) from Southern Seminary. He has pursued additional study at the St. Meinrad School of Theology and has done research at the University of Oxford (England).
We are also excited to hear from Mr. Walt Jominy, our Senior Class Advisor and Bible Teacher, as he addresses the Class of 2022 at the Baccalaureate Service, just two weeks away. Mr. Jominy has a Bachelor of Science in business from Ohio State University and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Nova Southeastern University. Prior to working in academia, he was president of a computer information provider that he sold to the Chicago Tribune. Mr. Jominy did an internship with Christian author Josh McDowell to further his studies in Christian Apologetics. He is currently in his 27th year teaching Bible, Economics, and Business at Westminster Academy and is an Adjunct Professor of Economics at Broward College and Palm Beach Atlantic University. Winner of the Deaver Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching he was also a Sun Sentinel Coach of the Year. Married to his high school sweetheart Jenny for over 49 years, he has two children, Rachel (WA ’91) and Tyson (WA ’94 and married to Amy Martin WA ’94), and five grandchildren. He also has four nieces and nephews who have attended WA. He has completed 18 marathons, an Ironman, and skydived in to start an ultramarathon. Mr. Jominy is a Ruling Elder at North Creek Presbyterian Church, where he teaches Adult Sunday School and preaches when his pastor is out of town.
We would love for you to join in prayer for, and in-person with, the Class of 2022 as they transition to the next chapter God has written for each of them.
