14 Apr Spiritual Emphasis Week 2022
This week was Spiritual Emphasis Week with special sessions with guest speakers Alisa Childers, WA alumna Sheilah Abadines ’06 Ledesma, and Pastor Gavin Felix. Village Hymns opened each day by leading worship. This year’s theme was “Here and Now,” and it encouraged students to be countercultural rather than followers. Our Lions Parent Association (LPA) provided special treats for our students. Upper school principal, Dr. Farrar, closed out the week by sharing that Christ is our anchor in the stormy sea of life. Students received books to help them continue their growth in Christ and gathered to pray and share their testimonies.
About our guest speakers…
Alisa Childers is a lifelong church-goer, follower of Jesus, and former CCM recording artist. She shared her experience of a period of profound doubt about her faith in her mid-thirties and what it really means to be a Christian and move from unreasoned doubt into vibrant, intellectually informed faith.
Sheilah Abadines ’06 Ledesma is a WA Lifer, and her time at WA inspired her to pursue God’s call on her life to help people. One of her favorite classes at WA was Apologetics with Mr. Jominy. She graduated from UCF with a Bachelors’s and Master’s degree in Social Work. She is a licensed mental health therapist, and she loves working with teenagers and young adults to prioritize their mental health and live a full life.
Pastor Gavin Felix of New Springs Church spent two years as a church planting resident at Spanish River Church in Boca Raton.
