10 Dec A Word From Mr. Satterly—December 10, 2020
Dear WA Community,
Last spring, when we faced a rapidly growing COVID-19 crisis marked by uncertainty and significant economic impact, our community moved to meet the challenge. One incredible response came from concerned donors who provided additional funding to help those with unanticipated needs. Another was from our dedicated faculty and staff. Not only did they quickly pivot to an online environment, every one of them made a financial contribution to our annual fund. This fall, our Advancement Team led a week-long annual fund emphasis, which significantly increased participation from our parent body that unlocked a $25,000 challenge gift.
Our decision to open school on-time and in-person was possible because the Westminster Academy community responds. We have challenged our faculty, and they have answered the call, likewise with our parents. Ultimately, a school exists for students, and even in this unique set of circumstances, our students have responded well.
Your gift supports the work we do here. It provides a margin of excellence, allowing us to pursue our mission—investing in people, enhancing places, and strengthening programs. It not only helps make us better now, but it is also an investment in our future. It is about our students. Two years ago, we developed a Portrait of a Graduate statement. In other words, the desired characteristics we aim to see in our students before they turn their tassel at Commencement that will continue to develop well beyond high school. Be sure to read the Portrait of a Graduate article that demonstrates students who embody these traits even now.
As you consider gifts during the Christmas season, I’m asking you to consider a year-end gift that invests in Christ-centered education—developing the qualities of the Portrait of a WA graduate. Your tax-deductible donation may be mailed to the school or made online at wa.edu/support. Thank you for your prayerful consideration.
