21 May Congratulations To Memorial Scholarship Recipients!
We would like to congratulate the following individuals on receiving scholarships provided by families in memory of their loved ones.
Lorie Hayes Scholarship—This scholarship was created by the adult children of Lorie Hayes, who are alumni and current parents of students at WA. Their mother, Lorie Hayes, was only 21 when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Throughout her battle with MS, Lorie exemplified hope in adversity, as well as continually pointing others to Christ. Therefore, their desire is to honor their mother and recognize those who have shown Godly character and the fruit of the Spirit in the midst of adversity.

Michael J. Grimmé II Scholarship—This scholarship was created by Donald and Pamela Grimmé, Michael’s grandparents. Michael was a junior at WA when he tragically passed away in 2006. Their desire is to honor Michael and recognize a student, nominated by a faculty member, who demonstrated the most improvement at the end of his/her sophomore year. Also in memory of Michael, his parents, Michael and Pam Grimmé, donated the clock located near the Welcome Center. This landmark honors Michael and includes a plaque with a wise reminder for our students: “Teach us to count the days. Teach us to make the days count.”
Congratulations to Clayton Early who received this honor!
