Middle School Thespians Compete At State Level

In their inaugural year, our WA Junior Thespian stars are shining! This past weekend, five students from sixth and seventh grade traveled to Orlando for the Junior Thespian Conference and Competition. They qualified for this event by receiving “Excellent” ratings for their performances at the local District competition in December. This invaluable experience allowed students to attend workshops taught by Broadway actors and dancers. On Saturday, up against hundreds of middle school students from around the state, the students competed in their events.
Every performer increased their overall scores in each event, and two students earned a Superior rating! Congratulations to sixth-grade student, Luis Ramirez who received an “Excellent” rating for his monologue. Siblings, Brady and Olivia Oropesa also earned an “Excellent” rating for their duet acting scene. Finally, seventh-grade students, Racheal Toledano and Ciana Ruocco each received a “Superior” rating for their individual Broadway solo performances.
Five eighth-grade students also qualified for States but could not attend due to the conflict with the Washington, D.C. trip. We would still like to applaud these eighth-grade students for their accomplishments: Lexi D’Aleo, Rowan Smith, Christopher Moody, and Elena Vanden Berge.
Make sure you save the date for May 14–16 when you can see these students, and many more, in the upcoming production of Mary Poppins, Jr.!
