A Word From The Athletic Director—November 7, 2019

Dear WA Lions Fans,

The Lions Varsity Football Team completed the regular season with an impressive 34–20 win last Friday night against the Ransom Everglades Raiders. The win improved the Lions’ record to 9–1 as they head into the FHSAA State Playoffs for the first time since 2001. MaxPreps ranks Westminster Academy football as the #2 seed in Class 2A, Region 4—giving the Lions a first-round bye week in the playoffs.

Westminster Academy will now host our first FHSAA State Playoffs in 18 years! The Regional Semifinal game will be Friday, November 15, on the  H.W. Huizenga Family Football Field at the west campus Athletic Complex—the very first on our west campus Athletic Field. While the Lions were the home team in a State Playoff game in 1999, we didn’t yet have lights, so we had to rent another field. So, the last true home playoff game was in 1991—28 years ago—when we played Saint Edwards on the east campus field and won!

The Lions will play the winner of tomorrow’s game between First Baptist Academy vs. Moorehaven. Our festivities will begin on Friday, November 15, at 6:00 p.m. The Lions Athletic Club is actively planning an evening for the whole family. In fact, Fan Zone fun will be provided by the Miami Dolphins prior to the game. Information about next week is forthcoming, including how to get tickets. We will be communicating more as we receive information from the FHSAA.
