WA Students Welcome Home Veterans Of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam

This past weekend marked the sixth year that WA students have participated in the homecoming event for the Honor Flight of South Florida. When WWII, Korea, and Vietnam veterans returned from a day in Washington, D.C., WA students welcomed them home. Over 50 high school students came to the Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport. Some brought homemade signs. Messages like “Thank you for keeping us safe,” “Some heroes don’t wear capes,” and “Thank you for your service” greeted the veterans. Students also cheered and had the opportunity to shake hands with them. Many veterans were moved to tears. The experience impacted everyone at the airport that would not soon be forgotten.
