Standing Ovation For Drama Students

Back in January, WA students gathered to begin their work on the spring musical, Once Upon a Mattress, the story of the Princess and the Pea. Over 250 hours of rehearsals and line memorization later, many enjoyed the fruits of much labor. The character development, singing, and choreography certainly put our talented WA students on display.

If you are familiar with our students, their talents, and most importantly, their personalities, you can quickly appreciate how precisely they were cast. Rachel Cox did a phenomenal job identifying each student for his or her role,” said Headmaster Joel Satterly.

Furthermore, the school musical had a faculty investment as well. Mr. Kent Barnhill oversaw the musical direction, and Mrs. Iris Fisher took care of costumes. Mr. Jeff Carroll directed the orchestra while Ms. Jaclyn Fortier constructed the set. “The incredibly talented Mrs. Cox led an outstanding team,” said Mrs. Lisa Wilson, Director of Fine Arts. “Even many of our WA staff assisted with tickets, ushering and concessions. We are blessed!”

We congratulate student directors, seniors, Ava Gaus and Emily Goldberg for producing an excellent show. In addition, we thank Collision Care Xpress, Integrity Accounting Advisors, and Ryan Critch|Ocean 400 International Realty for sponsoring this year’s school play.

Meanwhile, our Drama department turns their focus toward the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the largest performing arts festival in the world. Because of this invitation, WA will send 17 students to entertain young audiences in Scotland this summer. For more information about this opportunity, please visit wa.edu/drama.
