24 May Fine Arts Year In Review
Our Fine Arts department made advancements this year, especially with the addition of Mrs. Lisa Wilson as the Director of Fine Arts. The middle school added a new worship class to prepare students to lead middle school chapels. At Christmas, the a cappella and women’s choirs performed at the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT in Orlando. In addition, our band, orchestra, and choir started a new tradition of a Lessons and Carols Christmas performance.
And for some, Fine Arts kept their traditions going. The Lower School and Preschool enjoyed their traditional Christmas programs. The drama department produced yet another great show this year with the comedy You Can’t Take it With You. The Juried Art Show, once again, displayed our students’ many talented works of art. The Spring Concert Series highlighted our musical students in orchestra, chorus, and band. And finally, our lower and middle school cast presented another fabulous production this year with the classic Beauty and the Beast.
Fine Arts went beyond the walls of WA to bless others as well. Students performed for Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Coral Springs Christian Academy, John Knox Village, and many others. Five All‐State students represented WA in Tampa. Our art classes made banners of support for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February, and most recently Pine Crest School. Finally, Fine Arts also set their sights “across the pond” this year. The orchestra traveled to Ireland during Spring Break, and the drama department received an invitation to perform at the world’s largest performing arts festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2019.
Overall, 2017–18 has been a successful year for Westminster Academy Fine Arts, and we look forward to the next school year!
