This year’s musical, Little Women, is an adaptation of the timeless, captivating novel by Louisa May Alcott. The story, based on Alcott’s life, follows the journey of Jo March and her three sisters as they struggle through poverty, heartache, and the challenges of growing up during the Civil War. Jo, a fiery, creative, and outspoken girl for her time, struggles to find balance between her dream to become a writer and her desire to keep her sisters together forever. As life moves forward and her sisters begin to follow their own paths, Jo directs her focus on her writing. Despite her efforts to write popular melodramatic novels which come to life in hilarious musical depictions, she struggles to find a publisher for her stories. When Professor Bhaer, with whom she has a strained and complicated relationship, suggests that she should write stories based on her life experience instead, Jo is initially offended. However, after a huge loss hits her family, she realizes the impact her sisters have on her life and thus, the story of Little Women comes to life. This heartfelt play is guaranteed to bring joy, tears, and laughter to everyone and is recommended for all ages!
