Evening Of The Arts At Westminster Academy

Last night, Wednesday, April 20, was a fine arts extravaganza as both the middle and high school art students, orchestras, and choirs glorified God with their gifts and talents.

Our Juried Art Show started at 5:30 p.m. in the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church Narthex. The festival showcased artwork from all Middle and High School art classes. We could not be prouder of all the hard work these students put into their work.

The evening continued with our Orchestra and Choir concerts in the Coral Ridge Sanctuary. Our students performed exceptionally, excelling in their pieces. Mr. Schwartz changed things up a bit for his orchestra concert by combing groups who do not usually perform together and the results were great! Our younger students saw what extra practice will help them accomplish and our older students were able to lean into our younger students with advice on the instruments.

Congratulations to all our students who earned special recognition and awards last night. We are proud of every student in our Fine Arts Department!

1864_IMG_6148We are proud to share that Gaby Peña was selected to display two of her art pieces at the ArtBRAVO Juried Art Show at Artserve.

Being chosen is a very special honor in and of itself since only about a third of the pieces submitted are selected by professional art jurors to be in the gallery. To top it all off, Gaby won not one, but two awards: Judge’s Recognition Award and People’s Online Choice. She was the youngest artist in the gallery.

Congratulations Gaby!

Winterfest Student Art Contest—WA Winners

January 7, 2016 Posted in: Arts Tags: ,

IMG_10991In December, in honor of the Fort Lauderdale Winter Boat Parade, the third, fourth and fifth-grade art students were given an opportunity to enter their drawings into the Winterfest Student Art Contest. Their entries were submitted and the winners will be announced in March of 2016.

The drawings were also entered into the Westminster Christmas Boat Drawing Contest. All lower school students, faculty and friends were encouraged to vote for their one favorite drawing in each grade represented. The winners of the contest received a “boat load” of art supplies. The winner of the third grade was Christian Clark. The fourth-grade winner was Andrew Khoury and the fifth-grade winner was Lilly Nava. Everyone loved looking at all 120 entries that were located in the lower school hallways. Congratulations to the winners as well as all of the participants.

Portraits for Patients

September 28, 2015 Posted in: School News Tags: , , ,

IMG_9065September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and WA junior, Gabriela Peña, had the opportunity to share her artistic talents with a very special group of people.

Gabriela had the desire to draw some portraits for young cancer patients. Last week she attended a St. Jude event where she had the opportunity to personally meet and present each of the young patients with their drawing.

This was indeed a very memorable moment to share her passion for art with these amazing kids. We are very proud of her!
