Dads’ Breakfast With Dr. Bob Barnes Recap

October 4, 2017 Posted in: School News Tags: , ,

Written by Daniel Lafferty ’18

On Wednesday, October 4, many Westminster Academy dads as well as fathers from the community, gathered together for IMG_0766the Dads’ Breakfast with Dr. Bob Barnes presented by Collision Care Xpress. They shared a meal and learned more about the role of a father in training their children. Dr. Barnes, CEO of Sheridan House Family Ministries, is a renowned speaker, blogger, podcaster, and radio show host. After Mr. Satterly opened in prayer, Dr. Barnes began to speak about what it means to be a father. He shared Godly principles and his own personal stories from raising his children, WA alumni, Torrey Barnes ’97 Roberts and Robey Barnes ‘00. Dylan Kallioinen, a father who attended shared, “As a father of four young children I spend a lot of time trying to navigate fatherhood feeling like I’m treading water. The Dads’ Breakfast with Dr. Bob Barnes is one of the buoys that helps this father stay afloat. The message is always timely and practical. I’d encourage any dad to attend. It doesn’t hurt that the breakfast is good as well!” After Dr. Barnes was done speaking the attendees were treated to several giveaways from Collision Care Xpress, owned by WA parents, Robert and Christina Molina. Overall everyone left with a greater knowledge about fatherhood and a smile on their face!

CANCELED DUE TO HURRICANE IRMA

Parents, join our headmaster, Mr. Satterly, for coffee and pastries on Thursday, September 7, at 8:00 a.m. in Gangway (entry from the SW corner of the church). This new quarterly event, designed for busy parents, is an opportunity to gather in an informal setting to discuss a parenting topic in about the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee, immediately following drop-off. Mr. Satterly’s first topic will be technology, as he shares reflections from The Tech-Wise Family, by Andy Crouch. We will end promptly at 8:30 a.m. to honor your time, but you are welcome to stay beyond that time to connect with Mr. Satterly and other parents.

Trees Of Hope Presents Sexual Abuse Prevention Workshop

sapJoin us for a Sexual Abuse Prevention Workshop presented by Trees of Hope as we learn more about the startling statistics regarding sexual abuse, and what you can do as parents and community leaders to help protect our children. Ninety percent of sexual abuse is preventable through teaching and training. Trees of Hope firmly believes in order to stop sexual abuse from destroying a person’s life, we must start with training the parents of a child so they can safeguard them from ever experiencing it in the first place.

This workshop will be held in the Kennedy Fellowship Hall at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 7. The cost is $10.00 per person for materials. You may register at the door or online at treesofhope.org.
