The Spring Fine Arts Series concluded the year for our talented students with three evening performances. The series began with the Orchestra Concert on Tuesday, April 24, and featured our fifth-grade through twelfth-grade string players. Mr. Schwartz honored his nine graduating seniors who have been with him for nine years. They also shared a video of the Orchestra's recent trip to Ireland and presented Mr. Schwartz with a gift. The Concert Orchestra spent Spring Break with instruments in hand in Dublin, Ireland. While students traveled across an ocean to share their talents, they received life-long memories in return. The tour included historical exploration of Dublin and the east coast of Ireland. They visited Dublin Castle, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and Trinity College, the first university in Ireland. Trinity houses Renaissance literature, including a medieval ninth-century illuminated copy of the four Gospels called the Book of Kells. All-County Orchestra is a once-a-year event hosted to select the best orchestra musicians in Broward County, both public and private schools. While the Bronze Orchestra is comprised of teacher recommendations, the Silver and Gold are both auditioned ensembles. This past week, the All-State Music Conference gathered students who were accepted into one of three main programs—All-State Orchestra, All-State Band, and All-State Choir. These students, who traveled to Tampa, are among the best in the state. They met for three days of rehearsals before putting on a full program at the Tampa Convention Center. Hannah Billings (sophomore bassist) and AJ Kozich (eighth-grade cellist) were among those who performed in the All-State Orchestra. A familiar face is walking the WA halls with a new purpose. This week we welcome back Mrs. Lisa Wilson as our Director of Fine Arts. Mrs. Wilson is a graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, having studied organ with Robert Carwithen and conducting with Joseph Flummerfelt. She spent 12 years as the Upper School Chorus Teacher before moving to Augusta, Georgia. She was instrumental in forming the fine arts program at WA, where under her direction, the choir consistently won superior awards in national competitions and performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral and famous European...
