Last week was full of school spirit in honor of Winter Court with dress-up days, hallway decorations, the Winter Court presentation in the Upper School chapel, and Friday’s pep rally. All festivities led up to the WA Lions basketball game on Saturday, February 4, against Saint John Paul II Eagles. The Lions, who rank #3 in their division, defeated the Eagles 78–56. Peter and the Starcatcher Save the date for the High School production of Peter and the Starcatcher on Friday, March 24, and Saturday, March 25, at the Pompano Beach Cultural Arts Center. Tickets will go on sale on February 21. Peter and the Starcatcher is a Tony Award-winning play based on the best-selling novel, which tells the story of how a desolate orphan boy becomes the celebrated character of Peter Pan. On January 27, High School students spent the day volunteering in the community for Service Project Day. Each grade served at a different local non-profit organization. Students in 9th grade attended The Fruitful Field, where they worked in the community garden and helped to provide fresh produce to underserved families in the community, and at Feeding South Florida, where they packed 10,000 pounds of food. Students in 10th grade served for Heart2Heart Outreach, where they were split between two care center facilities impacting 40 senior citizens. Last month the WA Junior Thespians spent the weekend in Orlando for the State competition. They attended various theater and dance workshops on Friday and took in a performance of the Broadway show “Newsies” that evening. On Saturday, they competed in various theatrical events in front of a panel of judges. They were striving to be awarded the titles of “Excellent” or “Superior.” The troupe celebrated their accomplishments at an awards dinner on Saturday evening and then a trip to Universal Studios! The Lions Parent Association will host a fishing tournament on Friday, March 31. The tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. from the Hillsboro Inlet. Weigh-ins will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Sands Harbor Resort & Marina, followed by an awards ceremony at 4:00 p.m. You may use your own boat or join us on a drift boat that will be available.
