Dads’ Breakfast With Dr. Bob Barnes Recap

October 4, 2017 Posted in: School News Tags: , ,

Written by Daniel Lafferty ’18

On Wednesday, October 4, many Westminster Academy dads as well as fathers from the community, gathered together for IMG_0766the Dads’ Breakfast with Dr. Bob Barnes presented by Collision Care Xpress. They shared a meal and learned more about the role of a father in training their children. Dr. Barnes, CEO of Sheridan House Family Ministries, is a renowned speaker, blogger, podcaster, and radio show host. After Mr. Satterly opened in prayer, Dr. Barnes began to speak about what it means to be a father. He shared Godly principles and his own personal stories from raising his children, WA alumni, Torrey Barnes ’97 Roberts and Robey Barnes ‘00. Dylan Kallioinen, a father who attended shared, “As a father of four young children I spend a lot of time trying to navigate fatherhood feeling like I’m treading water. The Dads’ Breakfast with Dr. Bob Barnes is one of the buoys that helps this father stay afloat. The message is always timely and practical. I’d encourage any dad to attend. It doesn’t hurt that the breakfast is good as well!” After Dr. Barnes was done speaking the attendees were treated to several giveaways from Collision Care Xpress, owned by WA parents, Robert and Christina Molina. Overall everyone left with a greater knowledge about fatherhood and a smile on their face!

Alumni Mothers’ Luncheon Recap

October 2, 2017 Posted in: School News Tags: , ,

On September 28, we welcomed back our class of 2016 and 2017 alumni mothers to join us for our 5th Annual Alumni Mothers’ Luncheon. Mrs. Carole Sipowski, mother and grandmother of WA alumni and school board member was the guest speaker. She encouraged the mothers with wisdom from God’s Word and used the story of Moses as a reminder that parents must entrust their children to God’s care as they send them off to college.

We love our alumni and their families and desire to see them continue to be part of our WA community! If you would like your college freshman to receive a care package, please e-mail Alumni Association President, Sandy Hall at halls@wa.edu with your child’s contact information. Each year Mrs. Hall’s first grade class lovingly prepares care packages for our recent graduates to remind them they will always be part of our extended WA community. If you would like to be part of bringing a smile to the face of one of our alumni in college, please click here to sponsor a care package for $15 a student and mention “care package” in the comments section.

Also, if you would like the opportunity to connect with other alumni mothers, the College, Career, and Military Moms in Prayer group meets on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. There is no weekly commitment, so join as you are able to attend to pray for your adult children. Additionally, this group will also be preparing care packages and prayer grams at their prayer meeting on October 24 which will begin at 6:30 p.m. that evening only. Please contact Cindy Coningsby, WA alumni mother, with any questions you may have regarding this gathering.
