Fall Sports Update

Fall sports are off to a great start! Makes plans to cheer on our Cheerleading, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Swimming & Diving, and Volleyball Lions! View our athletic calendar for listings of all of our athletic events.

Cross Country
The Lions Cross Country program looks forward to a strong season with their large and dedicated roster. The team welcomes many new faces along with solid, experienced returners. Both Men’s and Ladies’ teams ranked high in the Florida Athletic Coaches Associations’ weekly poll in the Class 1A division with the men’s team ranking 5th and the ladies’ ranking 10th out of 125 competing schools.

Football
The Lions Varsity Football team is taking their “Be Great” theme to heart already this fall as they kicked off the season with a comeback victory against the University School Sharks with a 21-17 win. Although the team lost a hard fought battle against Key West High School last week, quarterback Drew Shiple was given great recognition for his performance in the game as he was named a Top Performer of the Week in The Sun Sentinel. Also, our Lions Varsity Cheer team has done a great job promoting school spirit and pumping the team up for their games with their ‘Ball Buddy’ gifts and enthusiastic spirit.

Golf
The Varsity Golf team kicked their season off last week with a tri-match against Cardinal Gibbons and Pine Crest where the team showed much promise and excitement for the season. The squad looks forward to a competitive and successful season.

Swimming and Diving
The Aquatic Lions had their first relay meet last week where they hosted eight schools. Some highlights from the meet were the first place finishes from the Ladies’ 200 Medley relay team of Jackie Nava, Jessica Nava, Jo-Jo Richter, and Amanda Wood as well as the Men’s 400 Free Relay team of Christian Henderson, Tiago Pereira, Chase Perry and Adam Warters.

Volleyball
The Lady Lions Volleyball team is off to a solid start having notched a big win this past Tuesday against Chaminade-Madonna in a close, five-game match. The team is currently 1-0 in District play and is faced with a tough schedule this season to help prepare them for the strong postseason finish they anticipate to have.

Track & Field Recap

May 19, 2016 Posted in: Athletics Tags:

At the state meet in Bradenton, WA had four young men that posted outstanding performances. Patrick Sastre broke the school record in the 800 meters (1:57) and finished second in the state in a tight race. Our 4 x 800 meter relay team of Patrick Sastre, Josh DeAngulo, Sage Brands, and Saahr Edouard finished third in the state. Congratulations, on great performances!

Special thank all those parents, friends, and fans who support WA Athletics by running concessions stands, providing food and snacks for our athletes during competition, carpooling athletes to games, keeping score and statistics, buying team meals, and providing funds for the “extra things” that make our athletic program special.

Go Lions!

State Photo 14Join in the opportunity to be a part of the Westminster Academy Cross Country 2016-2017 Team!

We will field a full varsity program, a junior varsity program, and a middle school program for both boys and girls. There are no “tryouts,” as there is a place on the teams for everyone. Our boy’s team will likely be ranked #1 in the 1A state rankings this summer, and like the pictured team from 2014, we anticipate both teams will make the competition in Tallahassee for the State Meet the first week in November.

Our season officially runs from Tuesday, August 9, through Tuesday, October 11, with the district, region and state competitions the following three weeks, ending Saturday, November 5.

We will have a voluntary summer training program beginning Tuesday, May 31 through Saturday, August 6. Please contact Coach Ken Key or you can call or text him at 954.288.9290 for more information. There is also an opening for a female assistant coach.
