Sunshine College Fair Coming October 14

Our Annual Sunshine College Fair event will be held Saturday, October 14, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Westminster Academy, Saint Andrew’s School, St. Thomas Aquinas, and North Broward Preparatory School sponsor this private fair for our high school students only. There will be over 200 universities and colleges attending the fair this year. The Sunshine College Fair will be held on the Saint Andrew’s High School campus, located at 3900 Jog Road in  Boca Raton, Florida.

Students should wear interview attire as they will be speaking with the admissions representatives of the colleges and universities.

Only high school students and their parents are allowed to attend the fair—please no younger children.

College Athletic Recruiting Seminar

WA-Athletics-289-186The Westminster Academy Athletic Department will be hosting a College Recruiting Seminar on Monday, August 28, at 7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium.

This assembly is for all student-athletes grades 7 through 12 and their parents. The WA Athletic Department will address NCAA requirements, policies, and will present vital information regarding the college recruiting process. The evening will include WA head coaches and student-athletes who have experienced the different aspects of recruiting. There will also be handouts and a Q&A time with athletic directors and coaches.

Gabriella Shyne Named A National Merit Scholarship Finalist

National Merit ScholarshipWe are proud to announce that Gabriella Shyne, currently a Senior, has been named as a National Merit Finalist and will progress to compete with approximately 16,000 students in the top 1% nationwide, for National Merit Scholar status. This is a great honor for both her and for Westminster Academy. Additionally, Gabriella received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award and scholarship this past weekend.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition for recognition and scholarships that is open to all U.S. high school students who meet published entry requirements. Semifinalists named in each year’s Merit Scholarship competition show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Over 1.5 million students in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). National Merit Semifinalists represent less than 1 percent of high school seniors. They are the participants who qualify to continue in the competition for the National Merit Scholarships to be awarded in the spring of 2016.

WA has numerous alumni and current students at Samford University.

Please join Robert and Elizabeth Taylor, current WA and Samford parents, as they host an informative evening at the Lauderdale Yacht Club on Thursday, November 12 at 6:30 p.m. The club is located at 1725 S.E. 12th Street, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
