About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2016 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. There are approximately 16,000 Semi-finalists. Of those 16,000 semi-finalists around 15,000 move onto the Finalist Scholarship competition. For a second time this year, WA Alumnus, Paul Atkinson ’17, was named Ivy League’s Rookie of the Week after his performance on the basketball court on Saturday, December 30 against Kennesaw State. Atkinson scored a career-high 20 points for the Yale Bulldogs during the game. He leads the Ivy League in field goal percentage. In his last four games, Atkinson is shooting 90 percent (18-of-20) from the field. He is the only Bulldog to start all 15 games this season.
