On Tuesday, September 29, we welcomed back our class of 2014 and 2015 alumni mothers to join us for our 3rd Annual Alumni Mothers’ Luncheon. Over forty ladies attended this special time of fellowship over a lovely lunch in the Kennedy Fellowship Hall. Mrs. Rosemary Barnes, mother of WA alumni, Torrey Barnes '97 Roberts and Robey Barnes '00, was the guest speaker. Rosemary and her husband, Bob have authored ten books on parenting and marriage and spoken across the USA and internationally. Immediately following the WA Winter Homecoming basketball game on Saturday, January 24, it was apparent that two superior teams were warming up on the court. The alumni and faculty! Hitting threes, making lay-ups, and the occasional warm-up dunk energized the crowd. Throughout the game the faculty gave it their all, but fell short against the alumni. Despite their defeat, faculty player and ladies basketball coach Shannon Wallhoff, electrified the court at times with the assistance of her husband Ehren. Advanced Placement (AP) scores are in! Students who take college-level AP courses in high school take a national exam in May. The scoring on this national exam is from 1-5, with 5 being the highest. If a student scores a 3 or above, they are eligible to receive college credit for the course. Most of our students who take AP exams, score a 3 or above and graduate from WA with numerous college credits. Please join us in congratulating WA students who have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement exams in high school. The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program provides academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit. Congratulations to our student-athletes and coaches on a remarkable year in sports at WA. WA won the 2013-2014 FHSAA Academic State Champion award for athletics in 3A for the state of Florida last month and now we have won the Most Improved Athletic Program in Class 5A-2A for the 2013-2014 school year!
