WA Students Swept The Youth Ocean Conservation Summit’s International Film Festival

December 17, 2015 Posted in: Student Life Tags: , ,

WA students recently swept the Youth Ocean Conservation Summit’s International Film Festival. Sophomore Christian Petrisko won the High School division for a documentary he filmed and produced on manatees. The controversial subject matter stands up to a powerful group in West Florida that is trying to downgrade the endangered mammals to “threatened” so they can eliminate wake zones. Click here to view his winning video documentary.

Christian’s seventh-grade brother, Derek Petrisko, teamed up with classmate Brian Washburn to raise awareness about sharks. Click to view “The Real Shark Attack”. For this film, the boys were asked by the Guy Harvey Research Institute to collaborate with them so they could spread the word about their shark tagging programs which many students from their non-profit organization have participated in. The film was written, filmed, edited, and narrated entirely by Derek and Brian. It was the overall winner in the Middle School division.

NHS Alzheimer’s Center Visit

December 3, 2015 Posted in: Spiritual Life, Student Life Tags: ,

IMG_1739Our National Honor Society visits to the Alzheimer’s Center have been going fantastic this year! The students always have an enjoyable and conversation-filled time with the patients at the Center.

This past visit, on Tuesday, December 1, we decided that we would have a Christmas-themed visit. We started off the visit by singing with the patients hymns like “Silent Night,” then we decorated miniature Christmas trees and talked with them. We were so blessed to be able to share the happiness and joy that Christ’s birthday brings with the sweet and kind-hearted patients at the center.

We are looking forward to a new year with many more blessed and enjoyable visits to come.
